From a8f921a4831575df4c7ce576c05d0457c0f3fbc2 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Max Reitz Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2014 09:09:40 +0100 Subject: [PATCH 2/6] qemu-img: Allow source cache mode specification Message-id: <1416820184-3129-2-git-send-email-mreitz@redhat.com> Patchwork-id: 62545 O-Subject: [RHEV-7.1 qemu-kvm-rhev PATCH 1/5] qemu-img: Allow source cache mode specification Bugzilla: 1166481 RH-Acked-by: Markus Armbruster RH-Acked-by: Kevin Wolf RH-Acked-by: Stefan Hajnoczi Many qemu-img subcommands only read the source file(s) once. For these use cases, a full write-back cache is unnecessary and mainly clutters host cache memory. Though this is generally no concern as cache memory is freely available and can be scaled by the host OS, it may become a concern with thin provisioning. For these cases, it makes sense to allow users to freely specify the source cache mode (e.g. use no cache at all). This commit adds a new switch (-T) for the qemu-img subcommands check, compare, convert and rebase to specify the cache to be used for source images (the backing file in case of rebase).
